some thoughts- maybe a cool chat or discussion

Okay- how is this for some food for thought?? How does our sociological or anthropological status effect our our viewing pleasures?? What I mean is this- through my interviews , networking and horror fans and friends- it appears that a lot of fans etc come from a small town, or midwest type roots- imagine the real Children of the Corn -lol ! Do you think the area-the isolated areas of living- bring out the thoughts of adversaries (such as demons , ghosts , Jason etc)- when was last time there was a person born and raised in NYC and they love horror because they can imagine Freddy roaming Wall Street ? Hope this makes sense! Also- our place in life- lets say we were diagnosed with leukemia as a child- and really got into horror- could the subconscious be showing the battle that the body id facing against an adversary (cancer)- like a young kid facing off with the axe wielding maniac- and having to find the "one thing" they need inside to conjure up to defeat this cancer in guise of a person killing- as in the body having to find that one thing to fight off the sickness. Hmmm- I know it isnt always a deep thing- sometimes horror is just that- a horror movie- but what if there is a challenge? Literally or symbolically ??!! Any thoughts ??

JG Was there a moment in time that you were hit that doing movies was what you wanted to do ?

KW-I’ve talked about this in other interviews and honestly when I was younger, acting was something that I NEVER thought that I would be doing with my life. Not in a million years. I actually recently ran into my 6th grade teacher and he asked me how I had been and what I was doing these days. When I told him I was an actress and that I do a lot of traveling, his eyes nearly popped out of his head, haha. He was shocked, which is understandable. If you had told 6th grade me that I would be an actress, I would have laughed at you and said, “Yeah, when pigs fly and hell freezes over.” Growing up, I was extremely shy and introverted and being in the spotlight was not something that interested me in the least. I always preferred to be invisible. Until high school, that is. Seeing how shy I was, several of my friends dared me to try out for the school play. I told them no way, not going to happen. But they kept pushing me to do it so I finally caved. I remember being terrified while I was sitting in the theater waiting for my name to be called to go up on stage. But when I finally got on stage, instead of feeling scared and nervous I felt calm all of a sudden. I felt like I belonged there. It was a bizarre and completely unexpected feeling. And that was the moment that I realized that maybe that IS where I belonged. I didn’t start auditioning for films until several years later, and I fell in love with the camera as quickly as I fell in love with the stage. I just love being a performer and I have my friends from way back when to thank for helping me discover that passion that I never knew was there.

JG-I know you have done modeling also , which came first?

KW-I did a little theater before I started doing photo shoots with local photographers. I actually started to do a little modeling right about the same time that I started doing films. Photo shoots to me were always for fun. I’ve never wanted to be a model and I have never considered myself one. I’ve done some photo shoots and fashion shows, but I’m an actress. I still only do photo shoots in between film shoots and the main reason I do them is so that I can have updated professional pictures of myself to put out there for people to see. Candid photos are fun and I have a lot of those on my Facebook page, but I like to have professional pictures to show people as well. So that’s my main reason for doing photo shoots nowadays. That and, like I said, I enjoy being in front of the camera and I love expressing myself in artistic and creative ways.

JG- Movie wise- was there a film that grabbed you so tight , that you knew that you would act in film if you were asked? What horror film do you have memories of that still today is the One that scares the hell out of you?

KW-Honestly, “The Lord of the Rings” was what first blew me away and made me start thinking about doing films. I didn’t act on those thoughts for several years, but that was the first film that just wowed me to the point where I thought to myself, “If I ever get the chance to work on something so beautiful and so epic, that would be a dream come true.” I left that theater thinking that one day I would like to take part in something that made audiences go, “Wow.”

As for what horror movies still scare me? There aren’t any, haha. When I was a kid, “Pet Sematary” and “It” scared me. But now that I’m an adult, those films don’t bother me any more. I still think the kid from “Pet Sematary” and the clown from “It” are totally creepy but they don’t scare me. Working at a haunted house and working primarily in the horror film genre, I’ve become pretty desensitized to everything. It takes a LOT to creep me out and it’s impossible for a film to actually scare me. I just don’t get scared that easily, especially by films.

JG-Where are you from originally? What was it like growing up there?

KW -I’m from the suburbs of Chicago and I actually still live there. I’m not a city person AT ALL, so I enjoyed growing up just outside the city. I was close enough to enjoy Chicago when there was something fun going on out there, but I liked being able to go back to the quiet suburbs to sleep and to live my day to day life. I will always prefer the suburbs over big cities.

JG- In horror in general- a lot of folks think the actors and directors must be crazy- or really morbid and out there- with that thought- how does your family feel about you in the realm of horror films?

KW -My family always has been supportive of me and I know they always will be supportive of me. That’s just the type of family dynamic we have. We are always there for one another and we are always supportive of one another. I’m very grateful to have such an amazing family. My mom and sister are really the only ones who have seen the majority of my films. My extended family (aunts, uncles, cousins, etc) have only seen one or two smaller things and that’s mainly because I feel like a lot of the horror films I do have elements in them that are inappropriate for my family to see. My extended family trusts me to tell them which films they can watch and which they should stay away from, haha! But even though they don’t watch the horror films I do, they still always ask me about how filming is going and they love to hear about my experiences on set. They support me in whatever way they can and I really appreciate that.

JG- If I were to go and “pick a day” to peep in on you at a casual moment- what would I catch you doing? Reading? Listening to music? Watching a movie? What would these answers be?

KW -Honestly, I spend every single day of my life doing something career related. Whether it’s networking with filmmakers, working on interviews, shooting audition tapes, answering emails, uploading pictures from the sets of my latest projects, doing photo shoots, searching for auditions, reading scripts, memorizing scripts, promoting my films, etc. You’ll more than likely find me on the computer doing things to help further my career. It’s what I spend the majority of my time doing. I’m not one of those people who sits around and waits for opportunities to fall into her lap. I work my butt off to be able to do what I love and to be able to create opportunities for myself. When I do take a couple hours off from doing all that stuff, you’ll probably find me reading a James Patterson novel or watching TV.

JG- Now a biggie- if you were asked to be in a Horror Porn film , as in one where you would meet a very grisly graphic demise- and your total role after being captured would be complete nude- how would you feel about that? If the scene fit’s the type of film- and would not make it al gratuitous- would you do it? Why so or why not? The reason I ask this is this- so many gals would do nudity regardless of the film ,gratuitous or not, and some simply wont at all . I think a lot of folks are kinda torn about their feelings on this issue- granted- who doesn’t like seeing a beautiful gal (or if a lady, a man) naked- or seeing boobs- but- is it necessary in certain cases?

KW -I’m not a fan of gratuitous nudity in films. I feel like a lot of the times it takes away from the storyline. However, that doesn’t mean I won’t do it. Honestly though, you will never see me fully nude in a film. The only type of nudity I will do is topless. I never show the bottom half of me. Even if it weren’t gratuitous, you’re not going to see me fully nude in a film. That’s just not a role that I think I would ever feel comfortable enough to take on. However, I have no problem showing my boobs and doing topless scenes – gratuitous or not. That’s no big deal to me and doesn’t faze me at all.

JG- Now an easy one- you have a choice- a major choice- this is utmost important- do you like pie or cake better ? Why and what kind?

KW -Oooh, I can’t choose! I’m a junk food junkie and I love both. So I’ll take a pumpkin pie with whipped cream and some confetti cake. Actually, make that a confetti cupcake with light and fluffy whipped vanilla frosting and sprinkles. Cupcakes are so much better than cake. Yummmm. I’ve actually got some pumpkin pie in my fridge so I may need to go grab some of that after I finish this interview. You know what else is really good? Those birthday cake pops from Starbucks. Those cake pops are so moist and delicious. I’m addicted.

JG- Favorite color ? Favorite number?

KW -Well even though black isn’t technically a color, it’s still my favorite. That and red. Purple is also a nice color. Hmm, my favorite numbers….2 and 23.

JG- Any exciting films on the horizion for you ? Going to any Horror Cons that fans could see you at?

KW -Well coming up next I will be flying out to Florida to work on “DISCIPLES,” which is a huge film that I will be acting in as well as being an Associate Producer on. Then after that I will be driving to Indiana to work on the controversial religious themed film “God’s Right Hand.” We’ve got a lot of great people on board both “DISCIPLES” and “God’s Right Hand” so I’m really excited and grateful to be a part of these projects. I think people are REALLY going to dig both these films. I’ve got some other great films lined up for next year already but these are the two that I will be working on before the end of this year.

In regards to any horror convention appearances, unfortunately I don’t have anything lined up at this time. But if that changes, I will be sure to make an announcement on my Facebook page! Fans can feel free to request me as a guest at any convention that they would like to see me at and hopefully the folks in charge of the convention will send an invite my way! I’d love to be able to go to more conventions and meet more people :-)

JG- One last one- what would be a dream role? Other then horror and something unlike you have ever done before!

KW -My dream role would be any role that was created by Joss Whedon. I’m a HUGE fan of Joss Whedon and working with him is in the top 5 things on my list of things to do before I die. So playing any character that he creates would be a dream role for me. I’d also love to play a character similar to Christian Kane’s character on the TV show “Leverage.” His character basically spends every episode kicking ass and beating up bad guys. To me, that would be a blast. I would love to play a really great action role someday. The title character of “Nikita” has a similar type of role. She’s a trained assassin so she spends a lot of time on the show doing action sequences and fight scenes. Action roles are the types of roles that I’m really interested in at this point in my career. I haven’t really gotten a chance to do anything like that yet, so that’s the kind of role I’m keeping my eyes open for.

ANOTHER SIDE TO THE STORY

If you know me in real life- or more then just the casual friend- you know my heart resides in the 80's- and I am a huge music geek as well with horror movies! Does anyone else ever feel out of place in this time? You hear of folks that "would fit in *blank* era" - well , me - that is the 80's- I feel so out of place in these days and times- maybe this is what people mean by saying "stuck in the 80s"- I know the time had its own share of problems in the world- harsh and unstable- threat of war- but it seemed like people still felt optimistic- and creative- I hear the music- and it takes me to a place where I feel homesick for-and a place for me that is still innocent-and pure in its own strange way! Maybe I am a grown up who wishes he had never grew up- the ultimate Peter Pan Syndrome- IDK- anyone else ever feel this way? Anyone else ever get teary eyed over hearing a song that reminds them of a time and place that they loved so much- it sucks to hear Alphaville sing Forever Young or hear OMD sing some of the early pop tunes- hell- When in Rome singing "the Promise"-
maybe I need a flux capacitor and a Delorean- and go back to the "future"

( from the official cover of the box)

This film was fun- it reminded me a lot of the campy feel of the 50’s and 60’s camp drive in horror sci fi films! I feel this film was done out of fun , and for the mere fact of just doing it ! That , in my humble opinion, is a damn good way to make a film- just enjoy and have fun! It brings back thoughts of watching Island of Dr. Moreua , a little different , due to trying to make a mermaid type creature , not just mixing and messing with animal and human genes.

The actors- well- they all have the “good looking “ look about them- of course the monsters looked great ! How could anyone complain about seeing Melanie , Cyndi , Sara , and the other gals in bikini’s ?? I know I for one- would NOT complain one bit , ever! I would not say though that the acting is academy award worthy- but I don’t think it was intended to- and that is not meant to disrespect the stars at all- I just see it as a film where it was simply a fun thing to do- and have an interesting story , hot babes and just a “breather” from the norm of sci fi and horror today. Today its so dark , gorey , intense , and sometimes we need a breather from that and this was just that.

The filming was campy also- just like the acting , but I find this to be charming and a relief from seeing folks who try and act to the point of over acting in simple films that are meant to entertain and not really out there for the ‘claiming of the awards” !

So- there you go- kick off the shoes- get some popcorn and a soda- set back- and enjoy some good ole fashion creature feature- what a breath of fresh air- enjoy- and get a break from the harshness and stress of life and have a chuckle !!

WHATS MORE HORRIFYING THEN REALITY????

Well I have been told that some folks like to hear rants and raves on horror ,so here I go- on the real horror- so pardon my soap box- pardon my anger- but this is REAL horror!
I dont want anyone feeling sorry for me- its just helps put into perspective if you know the background-but I have been trying for almost two years to find extra work- went 5 months without work at all last year- and now- I have a whooping 10 hours work a week- so here I am trying my damnedest to find supplemental work. I go and look and find requirements for the job - and I meet at teals the minimum of what they ask for- I apply- what I get back- OVER QUALIFIED- I apply for a job where I dont meet the requirements- I get UNDER QUALIFIED-try to work at a fucking Walmart- anything- tons of openings and yet cant get hired- why??? Dont I speak less enough English??? Am I not ethnic enough??? WTF ???? It really pisses me off when we as a country refuse to help our own people- instead we ship jobs over seas- to save a buck or to hear that lame ass excuse of "we must help others, and these jobs will help them tremendously"- maybe so- but when there are millions looking for work here and you screw them out of a place to work! We have families- we want to provide for- but you fuck us-what the hell? They dont give a shit about us- all the corporations want is more money for their billion dollar pockets- these damn oil companies saying prices have to go up because they are losing money yet they show a billion dollar profit?? I wish I had that problem- man I wish I did! This to me is TRUE HORROR- the way people treat people- the way the "care takers " neglect their own people- its true- as the Good Book says- GREED is the root of evil- and the way you treat people . I just want some more work- that all I ask- someone have some balls and let this American Young Male work- fuck- if I had 16-20 more hours I would dance like a spazz on speed- its good to help others-the less fortunate- but there are some folks who may not be as "less fortunate" who need help also- to neglect them , deny them, is a horror in itself- I am part of the backyard of America- but as we all know- we tend to now give a shit about our own backyard- and find out that a man like me has its own prejudices against him- "must be something wrong with him" if he isnt working full time so we dont want that-anyways- rant #1-
next time- rant on actual horror movies or something-

JULIE ANNE INTERVIEW- SHE ROCKS!!!

Julie Anne
Amazon- http://www.amazon.com/Slices-Matthew-Olivo/dp/B002AL2U7S
IMDB-http://www.imdb.com/name/nm2766218/

John Ginder – What was the first thing that got you hooked into the acting world ? Why did you choose to do that over dancing ? Do you do dance still ?

Julie- I started out doing alternative modeling, and once I turned 18 I got into working as a spokesmodel for Troma studios at the Orlando horror conventions. I was drawn to pursuing acting, but had no formal training. I eventually got up the nerve to audition, and ended up getting the lead in a feature called Teen Zombies in Love, and also a supporting in a short that is part of the anthology Slices. You can actually buy Slices online, and also view it on netflix. I prefer acting because I have full range of creative expression and performance. I love to dance, but I don’t do it professionally. Once I started acting I never stopped, and I don’t plan on stopping anytime soon.

JG – What kind of films would you love to do besides horror films? What would be your dream role ? Any stars you would die to act with or any director that would make your acting career complete?

Julie – Action, I love stunt work, fight training, anything with weapons. Anything that keeps me active, and where I can learn a skill, and feel like I truly worked my body out as well as my mind. My dream role is just something that involves all of the above, something strong, and of course twisted. Any director that believes in what they do, has an honest talent, and who will be supportive and admirable in the process!

JG – What projects are you working on at present ? Any plans on conventions or films in near future ?

Julie – I have a handful that are coming out this fall. As Night Falls starring Debbie Rochon, Raine Brown, Deneen Melody. Zellwood starring Playboys Sara Jean Underwood. No Strings 2 Starring Penthouse Pet Anju McIntyre, Damien Collettii, Max Wasa. Another episode of Dr.G: Medical Examiner airing in September. I have a film i’m working on for the SyFy channel which will air around Halloween, a HUGELY AMAZING project called Dead Buzz, some really amazing work out in Chicago which I can’t share yet. I have work on a couple projects in October and November, along with a by Joe Hollow, which will feature just outstanding cast members from all ends of the horror community. As far as conventions I have one in Gatlinburg, Tennessee, then Spooky Empire in Orlando, Rock and Shock, HorrorHound. I have three others to confirm with, but that’s what is set in stone right now.

JG – What would you do if you could not do any more acting?

Julie- I will be going back to school to continue my Crime Scene Technician certification, and then on to a degree in the same field. I won’t be slowing down my acting though!
